U.S. Pipe announces new HDSS restrained joint pipe

Birmingham, AL - U.S. Pipe has launched a new product, HDSS®. This new restrained joint ductile iron pipe not only has an industry leading pressure rating, but also has more deflection than our previous restrained joints. HDSS also features a simplified and easily verifiable assembly process.
HDSS is ideal for buried applications, bridge piping, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), pipe bursting, combined use with our earth quake pipe system, and any other applications where a robust, flexible joint is required. 30” HDSS was used in Michigan for a deep bury HDD project under the Detroit River to restore water service in that area.
The HDSS  joint is the only joint to have an up to 350 psi pressure rating and offer high joint deflection, as well being fast and easy to assemble; 2 minutes on average. To aid in joint verification and recognition, the locking segments are painted blue to be highly visible.  

This video shows the crew in Detroit completing assembly of HDSS, which is simple and assures the joint is installed correctly and secure, even in the worst of operating conditions. 

Features 
The HDSS system can provide a 350psi working pressure with a flexible restrained push-on joint for 
20”-36” ductile Iron pipe and fittings. The working pressure rating is variable depending on the class of pipe used with it. 30” and 36” HDSS provides up to 2.5° and 2.0° deflection respectively, and 20” and 24” provide up to 3.5° deflection.

Installation 
HDSS can be assembled (and disassembled) without special tools or shims. Ductile iron locking segments are inserted through a single slot in the bell face and slid into position around the bell to provide a positive axial lock between the bell interior surface and a retainer weldment on the spigot end of the pipe. A rubber retainer installed between the locking segments completes the installation and ensures the segments stay in place while the joint is extended to engage the restraint.
